The Manhattan Sailing School is introducing an incredibly exciting and unique opportunity for our weekend Coastal Cruising Class.

6 lucky students have the chance to become ASA Coastal Cruising certified on Dennis Conner's Formula 1 racing boats.

This boat is a beautiful high performance racing machine. We are happy to be offering Coastal Cruising certification through the American Sailing Association on thisis incredible boat on select super special weekends.

Basic Coastal Cruising will teach you:
  • Engines & Handling Under Power
  • VHF Radios
  • Sailing Terminology
  • Duties of Skipper & Crew
  • Seamanship & Anchoring
  • Reefing & Heaving To
  • Compass Steering
  • Safety Harnesses
  • Navigation & Chart Reading
  • Weather Forecasting
  • USCG Required Gear
The course will encompass a full weekend that will start in New York City and end Manhasset Bay.

Schedule:

 
Friday from 6 to 8 pm: Coastal Cruising lecture taught by instructor Ken Gross. This lecture will also include an introduction to the F1 boats at the docks and allow you a chance to meet your fellow students.
 
Saturday: Arrive for class at 9 am and leave the dock, sailing past the Statue of Liberty and then up the East River and around the Long Island Sound. Lunch will be eaten on the boat on Saturday. Late Saturday afternoon you will pick up a mooring at Manhasset Bay Yacht Club.  Students will need to make reservations to stay overnight at the Manhasset Bay Yacht club or local hotels.

Please note that courses 26-B and 26-W will end in Stamford, CT and all students will need to take Metro-North back to Grand Central Station on Sunday.
 
 
Sunday:  Arrive for class at 9 am and leave the dock, continue class and return to North Cove in the late afternoon.

Cost & Number of Students:

This guarantees to be an unforgettable weekend of sailing. The course is limited to six students per boat and spots may sell out quickly. The special introductory cost for the weekend of education and incredible sailing is $795 per person. After completing the course, students will receive a certification seal through the ASA to put in their log books...

Please note you must have already taken the Basic Keel Boat certification in order to get the ASA Coastal Cruising Certificate.
If you don't have the Basic Keel Boat Certificate we can test you out during the course if you have enough sailing experience.
