After graduating from Basic Sailing, you will be prepared to join the Manhattan Yacht Club. This is the largest sailing community in New York Harbor. The Club re-introduced recreational sailing to the harbor in 1987 and membership in the Club opens up a whole range of sailing opportunities.
One of the unique aspects of Manhattan Yacht Club is its shared use fleet of J/24s. New Members can get sailing right away in the Fleet Captain Program. This is a program that pairs experienced skippers with crew members. There is also a Mentor Program for sailors who wish to improve their skills and become skippers.
For competitive sailors, the Club organizes J/24 races on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, IOD races on Thursdays and Saturdays and Sunfish races on Saturdays. There is also the annual Lady Liberty Regatta for top women sailors in the United States. And the Club sends race teams around the world for various regattas as well.
One of the best aspects of Manhattan Yacht Club is it’s beautiful clubhouse facilities. There is green grass, flagpoles, BBQs and more. The clubhouse is the social hub for members where you can hang out, meet friends, relax and unwind before and after sailing. It has the best atmosphere in the city.
