Fall Navigational Adventure on Arabella

Navigate between New York Harbor and Newport, RI

Plus a weekend of fun and restaurants in the yachting capital of the USA!

October 25, 26 & 27, 2024
Bonus Day Oct 28

At the end of each season, Manhattan Yacht Club offers an exceptional opportunity to all of our sailing school graduates – a trip from New York Harbor up to Newport RI on the 157-foot super yacht Arabella!

This year, the adventure will be Oct 25, 26 & 27, 2024.

Guests will come aboard on Friday, Oct 25 beginning at 4 pm.  We will get underway to Newport around 6 pm and continue until around midnight. Then we will drop our anchor for some rest and get underway again at 6 am.  Our target for arriving in Newport on Saturday is 3 pm. Then we will go ashore and celebrate with oysters, beers and a great dinner.

This trip will help you discover the adventure of doing a delivery, which includes standing watch through the night, navigating and evaluating the weather, currents and sea conditions.

The participation fee for this Navigation Adventure plus having Arabella as your “floating hotel” while you explore Newport on Saturday & Sunday and enjoy the restaurants and night life, ranges from $490 to $690 per person, depending on the level of stateroom you select.

All staterooms are designed for double occupancy and you can also choose a single supplement for an additional fee.

The cabin fare includes the traditional “Delivery Dinner” on Friday evening, plus continental breakfasts each morning.  There will also be a lunch on Saturday since we will still be underway.

A cabin & bedding will also be provided during the adventure. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the start and finish.

Arabella will get underway from New York Harbor and head up the East River and then enter Long Island Sound. She will cruise past the Race which is the area between the North Fork of Long Island and Fishers Island. Then she will continue through Block Island Sound before turning to port at Point Judith and entering Newport Harbor.

This voyage is approximately 140 nautical miles. The duration of the trip will depend on wind and weather. Sixteen hours are budgeted for the trip. This trip will take place within sight of land and mostly on the protected waters of Long Island Sound.

On Saturday & Sunday, students will be able to explore Newport, including visiting the Mansions, doing the Cliff Walk, seeing the Sailing Museum, and hanging out at some of the famous Newport bars & restaurants. If weather permits on Sunday afternoon, we will do a sunset sail around the harbor.

Start by selecting your cabin. There are 5 options, Owner’s Cabin and Line A, B, C & D.  All cabins have their own private bath and air conditioning.

There are two Owner’s Cabins, 15 & 16. They are $790 per person.

Line A is our next highest quality cabin with a queen bed and is $690 per person.

Line B has a queen bed and is $540 per person.

Line C has two over/under bunks and is $490 per person. This is ideal for single people who need a roommate.

Line D is our economy single room with a smaller bed for 1 person at $690.

All cabins are designed for double occupancy. If you wish to have your own private cabin, this can also be arranged for a single supplement which is 1.5 times the single person fare.

The Overnight Navigational Adventure is an excellent introduction to the world of overnight passage making. It will help prepare you for longer trips such as our Coastal Adventure between New York Harbor and Annapolis, and our Ocean Adventure between New York, Bermuda, and the British Virgin Islands.

This adventure is open to Manhattan Sailing School graduates and Manhattan Yacht Club members. Graduates and Members are permitted to bring guests. Space is limited so please sign up soon!

OPTIONAL BONUS FEATURE

For those of you who can be lucky enough to take Monday off, you can double down on the experience you gain by activating the bonus feature. This will allow you to stay two more nights on Arabella, Sunday and Monday.  On Monday morning, Arabella will do some sea trials with our engine technicians which is part of her yearly maintenance program. Then on Monday evening, we will get underway to do a delivery back to NY Harbor, departing around 4 pm with the arrival anticipated for 8 am Tuesday morning.

The bonus feature will also include dinner onboard on Monday evening as well as breakfast on Tuesday. The cost of the bonus feature is $150 per person and includes 2 more nights onboard, plus doubling your delivery & navigating experiences.

To follow along the trip and assist with navigation, it is recommended that students download the Navionics app onto their smart phones https://www.navionics.com/usa/apps/navionics-boating?gclsrc=aw.ds.  During the trip, you will be able to see where you are at any time, observe your current speed over ground, plot way points, and estimate times to arrive at various points.
